A panel discussion about participatory research, homelessness, and real estate speculation.
In January of 2012, Picture the Homeless released Banking on Vacancy; Homelessness and Real Estate Speculation, a product of collaboration with the Center for Community Planning and Development. Participatory research methods were utilized to count vacant properties in all five boroughs. Among the key findings of the report is that New York City has enough vacant buildings and land to house the homeless four times over.
Panel:
Tom Angotti: Professor of Urban Affairs and Planning at Hunter College and director of the Hunter College Center for Community Planning and Development
William Burnett: Treasurer of Picture the Homeless Board of Directors, Administrator of Information Technology at Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing.
Jean Rice: Founding member and current Secretary of Picture the Homeless Board of Directors, member of PTH Steering and Civil Rights committees
Angela Tovar: Hunter UAP Alumni, former Center for Community Planning and Development Fellow, Community Greening Planner at Sustainable South Bronx
